How much tufting cloth fits your frame?
Blank width equals frame span width plus twice the side margin; height the same way. A 30 by 30 inch span with a 3 inch margin on each side needs a 36 by 36 inch blank.
Measure the frame span first, add the margin required by your mounting method, then compare whole rectangular cuts from the seller’s usable cloth dimensions.
What should I measure?
Use one unit for every measurement. The default values are illustrative: a 30 × 30 inch frame span with a 3 inch margin creates a 36 × 36 inch blank, and a 157 × 36 inch piece fits four blanks in the stated grid. To calculate by hand: add twice each side’s margin to the frame span, divide cloth width by blank width and round down, then divide the number of blanks by that count and round up to get the rows. Multiply rows by blank height and round up to the seller’s length increment. If no blank fits across, choose wider cloth.

Measure the part of the frame the cloth must cover
Measure the frame span your cloth needs to cover and identify the attachment area before buying fabric. Add the margin required by your mounting method. Finished rug dimensions describe the rug, not the full mounted cloth piece.
Measure between the outer edges of the attachment area, left to right and top to bottom. Add the extra cloth you need beyond each edge as the margin. Count the attachment area once.
Count usable pieces from the cloth dimensions
Work out how many complete blanks fit across the cloth and along its length. Keep the layout aligned with the permitted fabric direction. The calculator compares simple grids, shows leftover area, and rejects a piece that is too small for the dimensions you entered.
The calculator shows quarter-turn layouts separately. This is a simple-grid comparison; physical stretch and performance still depend on the cloth and mounting method.
Order enough length for whole blanks
Round the order up to the seller’s selling increment after calculating the length needed for whole blanks. Confirm whether the seller offers continuous length or separate precut pieces, then verify that the required rectangles fit your chosen layout.
Buying by the yard or meter?
For whole-yard ordering, enter 36 inches as the increment. For whole-meter ordering, use centimeters and enter 100. Check usable width separately; several precut pieces are not one continuous length.
