Plan the supplies for your first tufted rug.

A kit is only useful if you know what it includes. Record the categories you already have, match the frame to the cloth, and keep optional finishing tools in a separate list.

Use the included-versus-missing worksheet

Tick what you own or have confirmed in the kit contents. Leave missing items unchecked and use the list when comparing the total cost. Carving tools are optional; a full progress count is not a shopping target. Your selections last until you reload this page.

Match the frame and cloth dimensions

The finished rug size is not the same as the cloth piece you need to mount. Measure the part of the frame the cloth must cover, then add the margin required by your mounting method. The seller’s usable width and purchase increment determine how much cloth can be cut from the order.

Check the cloth before you add yarn

Use the cloth-size worksheet with your own frame span, mounting margin, cloth dimensions, and number of blanks. It compares simple rectangular layouts and shows when the cloth is too narrow.

Keep the purchase sequence practical

  1. Copy the exact kit contents into the worksheet instead of assuming a photo shows every item.
  2. Measure the frame span and confirm the primary cloth can cover it with the margin your mounting method needs.
  3. List yarn and finishing materials separately so a low tool price does not hide the rest of the station cost.
  4. Move projectors, yarn winders, carving guides, and upgrades into an optional list until a real limitation gives you a reason to buy one.
